Could fossil-free steel make forestry more sustainable? That’s what Ponsse, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of cut-to-length forest machines, is trying to find out. In a new project, the standard steel in one of its forwarder’s load space has been replaced with fossil-free steel, a pilot delivery from SSAB.
On 12 December, the PONSSE Scorpion King harvester was showcased at a demo event in Sadala village, Jõgeva County, organised by Baltic Agro Machinery AS and Elektrilevi. At the event, Elektrilevi’s partners and other interested parties had the opportunity to see how forest machines can effectively support the maintenance of power line corridors, making the work faster, safer and more ecofriendly.
Ponsse South America took 110 people to visit the company’s headquarters in Finland and also the FinnMetko trade fair, one of the most important in the world for the forestry sector. Among the highlights pointed out by visitors were the new technologies that they were able to see at the fair.
The national recognition that raises the importance and appreciation of the industry was awarded in conjunction with the Alihankinta 2024 event in Tampere on October 2.

The award highlights the greater effectiveness of individual actions. The recognition has been awarded since 2021. The award has previously been won by AGCO Power, Valmet Automotive and Sandvik.
