Everyone plays an important role in safety
Ponsse is committed to developing safety and preventing accidents. Our target is an accident-free workplace by 2027. Our safety commitment applies both to our own personnel and external employees such as service providers working in our facilities. We also want to be a responsible and safe partner for our customers.
Safety targets can only be achieved if everyone involved in Ponsse’s operations takes responsibility for their own safety and that of others. Whether you are working at Ponsse or interacting with us in other ways, it is important to us to hear about your working days from the perspective of safety.
At the beginning of 2025, we started to report safety incidents involving external parties. Incidents are recorded in our accident statistics in the same way as accidents occurred to Ponsse’s employees. They will also be investigated, as we want to better understand the causes of all serious or potentially serious accidents related to our operations so that we can prevent them in the future.
”We are all commited to the target zero accidents. We are not there yet, but we are working with supervisors every day to achieve this target.
For example, we discuss safety observations on a daily basis and think about the correctice measures required.”
- Jaakko Apaja, Operational Safety Manager

Global safety team
To develop safety, Ponsse appointed safety specialists to a global safety team in spring 2024. The aim is to achieve synergy benefits and enable the most effective use of our safety expertise in our operations. This change was possible because our sales and maintenance operations are fairly similar across the world.

“We hold regular meetings with our customers, with safety being an integral part of
the agenda. Last October, we were happy to see that our customers had already noticed that good practices had been shared more actively in our network. This is reflected positively in our safety development. In addition, I would like to emphasise that, to succeed in our safety targets, it is important that every Ponsse employee
participates actively in safety activities in accordance with the principles described in
our company,” says safety and health professional Pedro Betti from Ponsse’s country
organisation in Uruguay.
Knowledge increases safety
To develop safety, we need to know what kinds of safety issues everyone faces in the
Ponsse network. All Ponsse employees can record their safety observations in our system, and we also offer this option to third parties working in our area. We are developing our system to further improve the communication of safety observations in our network. Our product safety team would like to hear ideas and views to develop the safety of our products.
“Our goal is that, in the next few years, we will have the same safety management
tools and safety instructions in use across the world. We will next deploy the Safety Pillars, which obligate everyone who works in our facilities and different activities. They are very concrete rules and relate to many high-risk work stages, including lifting and working close to hazards. With these selected rules, we want to highlight the risks that are often associated with our operations and underline a safe way to work. It is important to us that you carefully read the rules and learn safe ways of working
and operating. If necessary, more information is available from supervisors, Ponsse’s contact persons and members of the global safety team,” says Päivi Koskinen, Global Safety Manager. “A safe work environment is also built as a team!”
